Privacy

We ask for your number once to confirm you're a real person, via a code we send you, and we keep it linked to your account. The number is not placed on your listing or in any conversation, and it never appears in search results.

• As a buyer, your number is never shown to the owner. An owner's number is not in the listing or in search results — a buyer has to ask for it, and the owner is told.
• There is a “show the owner's number” button — but it's a deliberate act, it requires you to be signed in, the owner is notified every time, and there's a daily cap on how many owners you can reveal.
• Chat happens inside the app under an anonymous identity that isn't tied to a number — and it remains the primary way to make contact.
• Your number is stored against your account and is not displayed in the admin console. Only authorised staff can retrieve it from the database, and only when there is a reason — owner verification, a report, or an abuse investigation.
• To deliver your code, your number is sent to our messaging provider, Infobip, and may be processed on servers outside Egypt. That is the only purpose for which your number leaves our servers.

The buyer must be signed in, and must tap deliberately — nothing is revealed automatically or by opening a listing. The owner is notified every time, every reveal is recorded, and there is a daily cap on how many owners one buyer can reveal.

• The number isn't cached in your browser or sent to analytics — not the number, and not a hash of it.
• Chat remains the primary path, and nobody has to reveal a number in order to make contact.

Owner verification here rests on a verified phone and proof that you control the unit (a utility bill, for instance). We don't ask for a National ID or a photo of one, and we won't.

The bills, contracts and receipts you upload reach the review team and nobody else. They never appear on the listing, in search results, or to any other user.

A listing shows the district and neighbourhood only, and the map shows an approximate area. The exact address stays in a private record held by the review team and never becomes part of any public data.

Messages pass through the platform so we can stop abuse and brokering. Either side can report or block, and repeated reports escalate the case to the review team.

You can search, filter and read any listing in full without signing up. Phone verification is asked for at the moment of first contact and nowhere else. Nobody pays to search or to make contact — every paid service sits on the seller's or landlord's side.

Saved listings and saved searches are stored on our servers against your account, so they appear on every device you sign in on. You can clear them at any time from settings, and clearing applies to all your devices.

When you accept the terms of use and the privacy policy, we keep a record of that agreement. We spell out exactly what it contains, because one of its fields is the internet (IP) address the agreement arrived from — the one place in the product where we keep an address tied to a person.

• What is kept: which document you accepted, its version date, the moment you accepted it, the internet (IP) address at that moment, the language you read it in, and a short description of your browser. Nothing else goes in this record.
• Why the address: a record of agreement that cannot be placed in time and space is not evidence of anything — for you or for us. That is its only use.
• Who sees it: this address appears on no page, in no conversation, and in no listing, and it is never sent to any analytics or advertising provider. It is not used to track you, to decide what you are shown, or to affect any price.

We keep your data for as long as the purpose it was collected for requires — while your account exists and your listings are published — and then delete it or strip it of identity. Some data we are required by law to keep for longer, and that is the only exception.

That includes the duty the Cybercrime Law (175 of 2018) places on service providers to retain data identifying the user and traffic data for one hundred and eighty days. That period is set by the law and not by us, and this data is never used for advertising or measurement.

We measure how people use the site — which pages open, which filters get used, and where people stop in the listing steps — so we can fix what isn't working. That measurement goes through a processor called PostHog, on servers in the European Union — that is, outside Egypt.

No phone numbers, verification documents or addresses are ever sent in that measurement — not in an event name, not in a property, not in an error report. Anything that looks like a phone number or an email is stripped before it leaves your browser at all.

We also record how you move through a page — where you tap and how far you scroll — so we can see where screens get stuck. Everything you type into any field is masked in that recording, and the sign-in screens, your chats, and the document-upload pages are not recorded at all.

Once you sign in, we link that measurement to your account using the public handle other people already see (like “مستخدم a3f9c1”) — never your phone number, which does not reach this measurement at all. The point of linking is to see a whole journey across visits instead of a series of unrelated ones.

If you decline in the banner shown on your first visit — or ignore it and keep browsing — we'll count the visit without setting any cookies, without being able to connect today's visit to tomorrow's, and nothing about how you move through the page is recorded. If you accept, we can follow the whole journey across visits — which is how we know someone came back and finished their listing — and the page-movement recording described above begins. Accepting also starts the advertising tool described in the next section.

You can change that choice at any time in your account settings, in either direction. Turning full measurement off stops the recording immediately, and nothing after that is linked to your account.

We advertise Emlikk on Facebook and Instagram. So that we can tell which ad brought real accounts rather than spending in the dark, we send Meta — the company behind Facebook and Instagram — a signal on exactly two events: an account being created, and a property listing being published.

What travels with the signal: one word of context — whether the account was opened to list a property or to contact a seller, and which type of listing was published (resale, rental, or contract transfer). Nothing else you type or browse.

Your phone number, your name and your email never reach Meta — not as text, and not hashed — and we have switched off the feature that lets Meta's tool read form fields on the page by itself, because on the sign-in screen the field it would read is your number. No signal is sent at all from the sign-in screens, from chats, or from the listing creation and editing pages.

But Meta's tool, like any third-party tool running inside a browser, inherently sees the address of the page you open, a short description of your browser, and the internet (IP) address you connect from — and it sets a cookie of its own that distinguishes your browser. Meta uses that to measure its ads and to target further ads at you, under its terms rather than ours, on servers outside Egypt including the United States. That is the real cost of having the tool on the page, and it is why it does not run before you agree.

If you decline in the banner, or ignore it, this tool is not loaded at all — it does not run and it is not even downloaded. Unlike the measurement in the previous section, it has no cookie-free mode we could fall back on, so its complete absence is the only way a refusal can be respected. You can withdraw your consent at any time from your account settings, and sending stops immediately.
